The Rak'kagh of K’maaxkoo (Un'k!!k'ng 0536) are a Minor Non-Human Race with a somewhat avian appearance and are technologically advanced sophonts in the modern era.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Rak'kagh are a bipedal, warm-blooded race with long, bowed legs, a long body typically carried at a forward angle, arms that resemble short, almost atrophied avian wings, and a heavy head equipped with a short, heavy, ceratinous beak suitable for cracking tree nuts. They are entirely herbivorous, having evolved among fertile jungles. An unstable period for their home star drove their ancestors from the skies to hide under the sheltering canopy of the jungle where they eventually lost flight, grew in size, and attained sentience. While they are reasonably agile on the ground, their native canopy remains their preferred home.

"Rak'kagh" is the K'kree name for this race. Their own name is lost to history, though some of the older families claim to remember, keeping the knowledge safe for the future which is not now.

Their avian history is still evident in their body coverings and some remnants of flight. What started as feathers have evolved in the tight spaces of the high canopy to a fine but dense and colorful downy consistency, not unlike a complex and flexible hair. They have retained some of their pre-sentient feathers on their heads and down the center of their backs, but any hint of tail plumage or flight feathers have faded in most individuals. A minority of genetic throwbacks are known to manifest limited plumage on their short tails and along the underside of their arms. Their hands possess seven fingers, the uppermost and lower two being independently opposable. The lower opposable digits are also quite long compared to the rest, and rest in a jack-knife position along their forearm. The throwbacks often have some vestigial wing webbing connecting the last finger to the forearm which, surprisingly, does not hinder the digit's motion and utility as much as the feathers which often adorn the web do. Their hands are nimble and their fingers are long.

Their prehistoric increase in size and intelligence widened the rear of their skulls, coincidentally shifting their vision from dominantly peripheral to somewhat more forward, though they retain considerable peripheral vision, and can move their eyes independently.

Their remnant downy plumage and feathers vary considerably in color, though the down that covers most of their bodies is typically darker hues. The skin beneath, should it be revealed, is universally mottled in patterns that remind of a once common plumage, with visible arcs and mottles that vary little across the whole of the race.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Rak'kagh are technologically savvy and take well to space travel. They are part of a small fraternity of K'kree client races that serve as ship crews and operators, often without direct oversight. The Rak'kagh build their own ships as well as operating K'kree vessels.
