System Data

Ravasa-Quarin System

The primary is Ravasa, an ordinary white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 8.1 Sols, a mass of 1.7 Sols, and a diameter of 2.366 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a vacuum inner world, (III) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (IV) an ocean-covered dense atmosphere stormworld. (V) Quarin orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (VI) a sparse rocky planetoid belt, (VI) a ringed small gas giant, (VII) a large gas giant, (VIII) a trace atmosphere radworld, and (IX) a ringed large gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Haille Subsystem

The companion is Haille, an ordinary red main sequence star that lies approximately 3200 AU from Rastar. It has a luminosity of 0.0202 Sols, a mass of 0.3942 Sols, and a diameter of 604,000 km. (I) a small gas giant forms the outer system. The gas giant retains satellites.

(VI) Quarin

(VI) Quarin is designated the mainworld. It orbits primary at a mean distance of 2.7 AU (404 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 3 years 147 days and a rotation period of 26.5 hours. The axial tilt is 31 degrees. Quarin has a diameter 10,958 km, a density of 5.79 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.9 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Dense, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 1.85 bar and a composition of 80% nitrogen, 19% oxygen, and 1% argon, water vapour, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by high concentrations of pollens that trigger allergic responses. Approximately 73% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.5m. Mean surface temperature: 18°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and strong weather systems driven by the star and the oceans scour the surface. The climate is seasonal.

Satellites

Quarin retains two natural satellites, a very thin atmosphere marginally hospitable world named Archell and a cratered vacuum worldlet named Landen:

(VIa) Archell (UWP Y410000-0, orbiting Quarin at 45 Diameters/489,000 km)
(VIb) Landen (UWP Y200000-0, orbiting Quarin at 55 Diameters/602,000 km)

Mainworld geography and topography

Total surface area: 377 million km², Water surface area: 275 million km², Land surface area: 102 million km². There are two major continental groupings, the smaller in the northern hemisphere and the larger straddling the equator and extending far into the southern hemisphere. Large islands and extensive archipelagos dot the oceans. The climate is generally temperate, with a mean surface temperature of around 18ºC. Weather patterns tend to be powerful and violent, with spectacular electrical storms. Extensive icecaps cover the polar regions.

Native Lifeforms

Quarin has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)

World starport

Quarin has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Quarin possesses a Technology Level of TL–1.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Runners or beast relay and long distance signaling such as the heliograph and semaphore.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Muscle power and water wheels.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:

World government

Quarin has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
