Population

The Population UWP code is an indicator of the world's population of Sophonts.

• This figure represents the exponent (number of zeros) which follow the first population digit (this digit is outlined in the extended data).
• High Population worlds are generally shown in all caps (e.g. ROUP) on sector/subsector maps.

Description (Specifications)

Following the example from the UWP page Roup has a population code of 9 and a population multiplier of 3. Thus the population is roughly 3x10⁹ people or 3 billion (3,000,000,000 - three followed by 9 zeros). The actual population will be between 2.5 and 3.5 billion.

• High Population worlds are generally shown in all caps (e.g. ROUP) on sector/subsector maps.
• Population codes 0 and 1 are special cases, as it is important to distinguish low population from literally zero population. Thus, the entire 1-99 range goes in population code 1.

In addition, the Population Multiplier digit of the "PBG" UWP element must also be zero to qualify for the Ba trade classification.

Barren Worlds

"Barren" worlds are those worlds with a Population UWP code of 0, Government code 0, Law level code 0 and a Tech Level of 0. Worlds with such elements in the UWP qualify for the Ba trade classification.
