This refers to a mutiny aboard the Marhleim Army Navy screen cruiser Petronk, under the command of Force General Idlis Pereaftessek, in 1068.

Background[edit]

Like most Marlheim ships, the Petronk was essentially a prison with guns.

While on an intrasystem security and training patrol that was extended for 20 days because their relief was late getting out of refit at Marlheim, food ran low when a replenishment vessel that was supposed to be full of food and crew supplies was discovered to be carrying mislabeled office supplies.

The Mutiny[edit]

A riot on the transfer deck spread to the crew's berths, where sailors overwhelmed the ship's MINITOL/MINIMIL detachment. After fierce and bloody fighting that left over half the vessel's crew and security detachment dead or wounded, a group of sailors under the leadership of a petty officer, Peq Proqqap, took command of the ship.

None of the crewmen knew how to jump the vessel; the jump process is painstakingly concealed from enlisted men, and requires three separate officers - the "captain", the vessel's MINITOL/MINIMIL officer and the vessel's GRYMOV/PURBUR officer - to simultaneously execute authentication keys at the beginning and end of the process; the "captain", General Pereaftessek, and the MINITOL/MINIMIL officer were dead, and torturing the key out of the GRYMOV officer only yielded one third of the solution.

Resolution[edit]

As the surviving mutineers tried to piece together how to escape to safety, a MINITOL/MINIMIL "Security Cruiser", the Philf, jumped into the system. The cruiser attempted to insert MINIMIL "Marines" to retake the ship; the attempt was rebuffed in a bloody melee leaving dozens dead and several "marines" held hostage.

At this point, the MINIMIL, GRYMOV and MARARSTAR officers triggered the transponder that detonated a hidden nuclear scuttling charge aboard Petronk, destroying it with all hands.

Aftermath[edit]

Although the security interlocks prevented the battleship from jumping to Aslan space and safety successfully, the MARARSTAR refitted all battleships with enhanced security bulkheads, essentially keeping all but the most trusted crewmen (and their MINITOL and GRYMOV minders) away from Jump, Powerplant and Gunnery controls.

Virtually everyone associated with the known mutineers disappeared into MINIJUST custody in the months following the mutiny. Few have been seen since.
