Gas Giants 4

Nisor is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and is also a low-population vacuum environment with a population less than 10,000 sophonts in population size, warranting hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • It is a part of the Client States in the Nisor Subsector of Far Home Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.

System Data

Plume-Nisor System

The primary is Plume, a huge red giant star. It has a luminosity of 2690 Sols, a mass of 9.2 Sols, and a diameter of 250 million km – the corona lies at 1.67 AU, within orbital position (V). The inner system consists of (V) a vacuum worldlet, (VI) a trace atmosphere inner world, (VII) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, (VIII) a sparse stony planetoid belt, and (IX) the Nisor Main Belt, designated the mainworld – orbital positions (I) to (IV) lie within the star. (X) a large gas giant orbits within the habitable zone. (XI) a ringed large gas giant, (XII) a very thin atmosphere radworld, (XIII-I) a small gas giant, and (XIII-II) a small ice giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(IX) Nisor Main Belt

(IX) the Nisor Main Belt orbits within the H– region of the inner system and is designated the mainworld. It lies at a mean distance of 19.5 AU from the star and is primarily made up of carbonaceous bodies with diameters of less than 100 km. The inner edge of the belt, with a higher concentration of nickel-iron bodies, is considered to lie at around 16.4 AU from the star and the outer edge of the belt, with a higher concentration of icy bodies, is considered to lie at approximately 22.6 AU. The main inhabited body is named Porfiria, with a mean orbital distance of 20.3 AU around Plume and an orbital period of approximately 30 years. It has a long axis of 350 km, a density of 3.88 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.019 G. It retains no atmosphere and has no hydrographics. Mean surface temperature: 110°C in sunlight, 45°C in shadow.

Native Lifeforms

Plume-Nisor System

No world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

Nisor is a member of the ANMaN Worlds.

World starport

Nisor has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Nisor possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World government

Nisor is governed by a Corporate Polity with a single corporation with a typical corporate structure as a government. A company town, or world. The typical corporate run world usually has a single purpose. Examples include mining, agriculture, or other kinds of resource extraction. But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.
