Monastery is an agricultural, nonindustrial, and very rich garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most sophonts.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world. However, a rich world like this one can afford the cost of importation.
  • This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
  • Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are expected to incrementally rise barring outside forces. The world will grow even quicker when its industrial sector begins to develop.
  • It is a part of The Retreat in the Baradis Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.

System Data

Primus-Monastery System

The primary is Primus, an ordinary yellow-white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 1.668 Sols, a mass of 1.092 Sols, and a diameter of 1.536 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a very thin atmosphere inner world, (II) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (III) an exotic atmosphere stormworld. (IV) Monastery orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (V) a dense stony planetoid belt, (VI) a small gas giant, (VII) a ringed large gas giant, (VIII) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (IX) a large gas giant, and (X) a trace atmosphere iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(IV) Monastery

(IV) Monastery is designated the mainworld. It orbits Primus at a mean distance of 1.14 AU (170.5 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 425 days 11 hours and a rotation period of 25 hours. The axial tilt is 17 degrees. Monastery has a diameter of 12,675 km, a density of 5.48 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.98 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of its two large moons cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Dense, with a mean surface pressure of 2.02 bar and a composition of 79% nitrogen (N2), 20% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 71% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.5. Mean surface temperature: 23°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Warm and experiences moderate seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and strong weather systems driven by the star and the oceans surge across the surface.

Satellites

Monastery retains two natural satellites, a thin atmosphere hospitable moon named Rami and a standard atmosphere radworld named Mortuary:

(IVa) Rami (UWP Y454000-0, orbiting Monastery at 20 Diameters/253,000 km)
(IVb) Mortuary (UWP Y473000-0, orbiting Monastery at 35 Diameters/444,000 km)

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 505 million km², Water surface area: 359 million km², Land surface area: 146 million km².

Native Lifeforms

Primus-Monastery System

Monastery, the mainworld, lying within the habitable zone, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

  • Rami, Monastery's hospitable inner moon, has extensive native life, consisting of microscopic organisms, stromatolite-parallels and primitive flora that can be found in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

World starport

Monastery has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World technology level

Monastery possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.

World government

Monastery is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
