The Mikikuma Subsector is Subsector E in Ktiin'gzat Sector

Description[edit]

With three Vargr Naval Bases across Mikikuma Subsector and zero Corsair Bases, piracy here is the lowest within Ktiin'gzat Sector. In fact, Mikikuma Subsector is the 'quietest' of all the subsectors of Ktiin'gzat. Twelve worlds were passed over in a rushed exodus from Gashikan Sector and Trenchans Sector to escape the Wolvesbane Project. The worlds here have retained their First Imperium names though the subsector, the Vargr uninterested in renaming them. The empty parsecs of Mikikuma provided helpful firebreak stopgaps to the bioengineered weapon that slaughtered all canines in Gashikan Sector and threatened to spill over into the surrounding region. Fear and exodus panic caused Mikikuma Subsector to be passed over by the escaping Suedzuk Vargr trailing of the Second Empire of Gashikan.

Today, Mikikuma Subsector is home to brave Vargr washing back toward Trenchans Sector to slowly re-colonize and develop the twelve worlds here. Trade and commerce is limited to vessels with two-parsec jump range. Trade with the Third Empire of Gashikan happens with distrust on the part of both Vargr and the Humaniti to spinward. Mikikuma is one of two trailing subsectors of the Third Empire of Gashikan and the only subsector where Vargr can cross the border by issued and expensive travel and work visas.

Though there is incentives offered to Vargr to return to Mikikuma Subsector, the lingering superstition and fear of Wolvesbane has slowed the staffing of A-rated Starports in need of personnel. Only three of the four starship drydocks can produce vessels with any regularity and only during lulls in interstellar traffic. Fuanagoksoaztok, rated a Starport B, has the best services for its Tech Level and staffing despite its Balkanized government. Specialists there use waterborne docks and piers to provide maintenance, annual overhauls and life support services with the highest reviews in the subsector.

The Vargr Naval Bases of Mikikuma Subsector are purposely kept distant from the border of the Third Empire of Gashikan, whose border worlds are swarming with Scout vessels eager to cry an alarm of a Suedzuk incursion. Vargr Patrols are a monthly affair and sometimes become quarterly due to quiet seasons where traffic is lowest.

Astrography[edit]

Mikikuma Subsector lies directly coreward of the Mikikuma Nothingness, a medium swath of empty parsecs of space. The Nothingness reaches into Ilakhegiki Subsector and is known by another name there, (true to Vargr lack of nomenclature cohesion).
