Meta Identity, literally "above identity", refers to electronic or viral consciousness which is able to move from one body to the next while retaining the same Personality. This is the opposite of the embedded or Point Identity which has thus been universally present in biologically based sophonts.
The process of moving an identity or Personality from one body to another is Metempsychosis. The term is usually used in the field of Information Technology and higher Sophontology.
