Knowin, Merlin Johann
Count Knowin of Celepina is one of the more popular nobles in the Spinward Marches, but is only well-known within his own County and environs. A native-born Celepinan, he nonetheless sought out adventurous careers in the Imperial Marines and Navy. Due to his careful use of anagathics, his physical age is approximated at 25 standard years, though he is well over 60. Dispite his physical prowess, he left the Naval service as a full Commander in order to assume his duties as Count after the passing of his father, Justin.
The Knowin estates are located in the Deeps of Celepina. The main estate was designed and prototyped by the ice scuptors of Hammer in the Valhalla system, and cut into the living rock at the bottom of the Knowin Deep under their direction. The residence is already considered a work of high art and a planetary treasure, and the prototype on Hammer has gathered a small stream of artist-tourists in its own right.
The Count is on good terms with most of his vassels. He took some pride in assigning his friend, Lt. Cmdr. Maria Alexandre as Govenor of Valhalla. "What is power if one cannot reward one's friends, as well as punish one's enemies?" said he.
The Count travels between the worlds of his County for approximately 70% of this schedule. More than half that time is spent on Zivije, due to its high population and complex politico-economic issues. Though Knowin enjoys his stays at his home estates, he also takes advantage of the nightlife when possible. The Count is not at this time married, and his escapades with famous socialites is well-followed by various news agencies.
As he himself sums up in his first autobiography, he lives to "work hard and play harder".
