Medis Jal is a high-population, pre-rich water world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.

  • This world has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.
  • The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
  • It lacks adequate resources to expand its economy to a rich status.
  • Its economy and population are rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to quickly rise barring outside forces.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Tsorva Subsector of Halcyon Sector.
  • This world-system hosts a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces, which may be located on or off-world.

System data

Famarar-Medis Jal System

The primary is Famarar, a white subgiant star. It has a luminosity of 9.8 Sols, a mass of 1.9 Sols, and a diameter of 3.7 million km. The inner system consists of (II) a dense rocky planetoid belt, (IV) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (V) a dense atmosphere stormworld – orbital positions (I) and (III) are empty. (VI) Medis Jal orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (VII) a thin atmosphere (marginally) hospitable world, (VIII) a large gas giant, (IX) a very large gas giant, (X) a small gas giant, (XI) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (XII) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Most of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(VI) Medis Jal

(VI) Medis Jal is designated the mainworld and orbits Famarar at a mean distance of 2.6 AU (389 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 9 years 91.5 days and a rotation period of 23 hours. The axial tilt is 16 degrees. Medis Jal has a diameter of 11,426 km, a density of 6.84 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.11 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Dense, with a mean surface pressure of 2.37 bar and a composition of 80% nitrogen, 19% oxygen, and 1% argon, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. Approximately 98% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 1.5m. Mean surface temperature: 32°C. The atmosphere is extremely dynamic and violent weather systems, driven by the star and the seas, rage across the globe. The climate is seasonal and weather patterns follow regular cycles during the local year.

Mainworld Size (S)

This world is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

This world has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

This world has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.

Satellite:

Medis Jal retains a single natural satellite, a marginally habitable world named Askara:

(VIa) Askara (UWP F534467-9, orbiting at 20 Diameters/229,000 km)

World starport

Medis Jal has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World government

Medis Jal is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.

World technology level

Medis Jal possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World military

A large number of combat submarines prowl this planet's ocean depths.
