Mater Nova is an agricultural world with a tainted atmosphere but still a near-ideal environment for producing foodstuffs. The system supports a population of tens of millions of sophonts. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Star Lane Subsector of Deneb Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Mater Nova, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight and the fiefdoms of a baron and a marquis. All three are members of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)

Mater Nova is a member of the Spinward Main.

Lurent planetoid ships may be found, trading, in the inner system or in the system’s Oort clouds, refueling.

Mater Nova is subject to very active volcanism, generally basaltic floods that engulf large areas of the surface. Massive lava flows give the nightside a characteristic glow that is easily noticeable from far orbit. These flows are unstable after cooling, and are quickly eroded away by water and wind. The world gets its name from this everchanging and evolving landscape. Some mining is done, but exploitation of the world is difficult to accomplish, and agriculture is nearly impossible with the constant threat of lavaflows.

History & Background (Dossier)

Mater Nova is relatively isolated from the rest of Star Lane, has a bit of power and has a martial culture. It is therefore able to maintain its own independence from county or Duchy. Its influence can be felt for a few parsecs around it.

In 619, during Deneb's Bad War, there was a nuclear exchange in close orbit over the mainworld. Potable water is in short supply on this world, volcanic eruptions confine the population to a small number of coastal cities. Ninety percent of the local economy is generated by traffic transiting from the Spinward Main to nearby Sabine Subsector.
