Marinagua is a nonindustrial fluid world.

  • A fluid world has an oceanic geography of a liquid other than water such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquids.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by indigenous Sophonts located in the Borealis Kantel Subsector of Theta Borealis Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Marinagua has a solitary primary star.

  • It is a blue-white main sequence.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.

  • It lies within the zones prime H region.
  • It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Marinagua is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Marinagua has a Corrosive Atmosphere and possesses a concentrated gas mix or unusual temperature which requires the use of a Hostile Environment Suit or Vacc Suit. TL–9 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Marinagua has 45-55% of its surface covered by a fluid other than water. Wilderness refueling is not possible. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds may be Hell Worlds.

  • This surface fluid may be ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquids depending on the local temperature and environment.

Satellites[edit]

Marinagua retains a single vacuum moon.

  • It orbits once every few days.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Notable topographical features include the Mountain of Life, Mowelljyl, which towers above the jungle of the Kha-myn-hirdh. Atop it is Feres'ne Dur (The Invincible Bastion), built by long-forgotten priests as a retreat.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Exotic native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

The oceans of Marinagua are variable, with some places barren of life while others teem with it. The dead spots move around, being formed when the currents deposit enough deadly minerals to kill off most types of organic life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Marinagua is in a state of societal decay, with violence and nihilistic philosophies common. Brigands roam the countryside between cities, which are both fortified and socially stratified. The wealthy reside within sumptuously appointed fortresses guarded by military personnel.

  • Information about the system is sparse.
  • The resources of the system are being exploited.

A number of organizations and private interests are active within the system.

  • Commercial traffic is frequent: ships regularly arrive and depart.
  • Commo is filled with signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic.
  • Multiple commercial navigation beacons will be active.
  • A number of vessels may be operating among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.

Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.

  • Verified updated data is constantly sought.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Marinagua has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Marinagua has a population of 300,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
  • The population almost entirely consists of Alejia.
  • Some humans and other sophonts may be encountered.

Urbanization[edit]

A few larger urban centers are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.

  • Inhabited areas are dotted across the world.
    • The most important city is Balac Pont.
  • Much of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Marinagua possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government (G)[edit]

Marinagua is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.

Rulership of Marinagua is hereditary, but carries little power. The Rulers spend their lives in self-sufficient, fortified palaces. The greatest of these is Derlack Monwa (the Palace of Wealth), a massive edifice that was both the palace and tomb for the wealthiest Alejia in history, Baberbren.

World Military[edit]

Approximately 10,000 professional warriors.

World Law (L)[edit]

Marinagua has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: 0 (unimportant)

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 8 (moderate)
  • Labor: 4 (tens of thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 4 (very limited)
  • Efficiency: -4 (very poor)

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 1 (monolithic)
  • Acceptance: 5 (very aloof)
  • Strangeness: 1 (very typical)
  • Symbols: 4 (concrete)
