Malenor is a poor, low-population hellworld with a population less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- It is a member of the Protectorate of Leset in the Xelan Subsector of Far Home Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.

Awless-Malenor System
The primary is Awless, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.04 Sols, a mass of 0.489 Sols, and a diameter of 764,000 km. (I-I) Malenor, designated the mainworld, and (I-II) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, have a shared orbit within the habitable zone.(II-I) a small gas giant, (II-II) a planetoid belt, (III) a large gas giant, (IV) a ringed large gas giant, and (V) a planetoid belt form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

(I-I) Malenor
(I-I) Malenor is designated the mainworld. It orbits Awless at a mean distance of 0.09 AU (13.5 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 14 days 3 hours: it is tidally locked to Awless. The axial tilt is 1 degree. Malenor has a diameter of 5,238 km, a density of 6.31 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.47 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Awless cause constant geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.52 bar and a composition of 85% nitrogen (N2), 13% abiotic oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% carbon dioxide (CO2), water vapor (H2O), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 7% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water: average tidal ranges are negligible. Mean surface temperature: 45°C. The climate is rated as Hot and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and strong weather systems driven by the star surge across the globe.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 86 million km², Land surface area: 80 million km², Water surface area: 6 million km².
- The oxygen in the atmosphere is abiotic in origin, produced by the photocatalytic reaction between UV energy radiating from the star and titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is found in surface minerals such as ilmenite.
- Malenor is a Twilight Zone World.
- The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.

Malenor has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
