Magada is an icy, low-population world, with a population less than 10,000 sophonts in population size, warranting hazardous environment precautions.
- Its surface is ice-capped with nearly all of its water frozen.
- It is a member of the Firstworlds in the Esqua Subsector of Far Home Sector.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- It is a part of the Risa Cluster.

System Data
Ballan System
The primary is Ballan, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0202 Sols, a mass of 0.3942 Sols, and a diameter of 604,000 km. (I) a vacuum iceworld, (II) an exotic atmosphere radworld, and (III) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. None of the worlds retain satellites.
Orith-Magada Subsystem
The companion is Orith, a dim red main sequence star lying approximately 3.3 AU (orbital position (VI), 449.2 million km) from Ballan. It has a luminosity of 0.007 Sols, a mass of 0.331 Sols, and a diameter of 498,000 km. (I) a vacuum iceworld, (II) a vacuum iceworld, and (III) Ramuka, a large gas giant: (IIIc) Magada is its largest satellite and is designated the mainworld; form the outer system. Only Ramuka retains satellites.
- The two stars orbit a barycenter located at around 1.42 AU (orbital position (VI), 212.4 million km). They have an orbital period around one another of 1 year 361 days.
(III) Ramuka
(III) Ramuka is a large gas giant that orbits Orith at a mean distance of 0.68 AU (101.7 million km), within the outer system, and has an orbital period of 356 days 1 hour. It has a diameter of 212,000 km and an atmosphere consisting of 90% hydrogen (H2), 10% helium (He), and less than 1% methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), ammonia (NH3), water vapor (H2O) and other trace gases. It is a faintly banded brown-tan color with streaks of white high altitude cloud and spectacular polar aurora. It retains a family of four major satellites.
Satellites
Ramuka retains four major satellites:
- (IIIa) Randeva (UWP Y101000-0, orbiting at 5 Diameters/1.06 million km)
- (IIIb) Palo (UWP Y210000-0, orbiting at 8 Diameters/1.69 million km)
- (IIIc) Magada (designated the mainworld, orbiting at 35 Diameters/7.42 million km)
- (IIId) Prim (UWP H3A0000-0, orbiting at 45 Diameters/9.54 million km)
Mainworld Data
(IIIc) Magada
(IIIc) Magada is the third of the five major moons of (III) Ramuka and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 35 diameters (7.42 million km), with an orbital period of 3 years 133 days: it is tidally locked to Ramuka. The axial tilt is 3 degrees relative to Ramuka. Magada has a diameter of 6,217 km, a density of 4.65 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.41 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Ramuka cause regular geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Trace, with a mean surface pressure of 0.04 bar and a composition of 98% nitrogen (N2), 1% methane (CH4), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), neon (Ne), and other trace gases. Background radiation levels are relatively high: emission rates exceed 2 rads per hour. Approximately 11% of the surface is covered in sheets of water-ice. Mean surface temperature: -146°C. The climate is rated as Frigid and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is ethereal and weak weather systems driven by the star ghost across the globe.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 121 million km², Land surface area: 108 million km², Ice surface area: 13 million km².
Native Lifeforms
Orith-Magada Subsystem
No world in the system is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)
No information yet available.
World starport
Magada has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Magada possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World government
Magada has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
