Larmige is an industrial world with a tainted atmosphere. The system has a population over one billion. This world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Iiradu Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Larmige, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight and the fiefdoms of a count and a minor duke. All three are members of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. The system supports both an Imperial Naval Base and a Scout Base with the additional starship traffic. During the Long Night this world was named Zillai.

Astrography and planetology

Larmige is a member of the Iiradu Trace. The naval base hosts elements of the 187th Fleet.

Orbiting close to the star Essen, Larmige's short (11 standard hours) days are one of the most difficult factors for visitors to acclimatise to.

Larmige has two satellites: Ramada, the site of the system's naval base, and the smaller Xloni, home to a small IISS installation. Both moons are rented to the Imperial government, in return for providing the armed forces for the system under a 100 year contract to the Larmige government. As such, these are not deemed standard Imperial bases.

Point of Interest: Terraforming Project

There has been significant terraforming -- including weather control -- over the last few centuries, mostly directed towards bringing down the surface temperature (originally close to 50°C). This is now coming to an end, and purification of the atmosphere, excessively rich in nitrogen and nitrogen compounds, is the next goal.

History and background

Rich in natural resources, this was a factory world of the First Imperium and Second Imperium. When the Second Imperium collapsed the world was cut off from the interstellar community. Society collapsed, and for many years the world was wracked by civil war. In -951 the world was finally reunited by Makkhii Larm, the founder of the religion of Larmism. In -890, the year after Larm died, the world was renamed Larmige in his honour, with a university dedicated to continuing his work.

World Starport

Larmige has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Government

The planetary ruler, the Larmess, is the head of both Church and State; she is high priestess and keeper of the book of Larm -- a combination of holy book and constitution, which only the Larmess may alter. Below her are several grades of Priest, who also function as government officials. Enforcers, a sub-class of priest, act as police, ensuring that laws are followed and criminals punished.

World Culture

It is usually possible to tell how important a person is by the color of their clothing. The Larmess wears white, signifying enlightenment, with lower classes wearing progressively darker shades. Particularly devout Larmists wear only grey, although many others wear caste approved colors in shades of greens or blues.

Off-worlders must identify themselves by wearing red armbands, and are subject to the same laws as the local population. Two key laws to be aware of are as follows:

  • Artificial sophonts, defined as self aware computers and some uplifted races including Vargr, are considered property.
  • Use of non-medical drugs, including alcohol, is prohibited.
