The Katl*'latl of Fufoekkfal (Gvurrdon 0112) are a Minor Non-Human Race with a semi-humanoid appearance and technologically primitive sophonts.

Description (Specifications)

The Katl*'latl are able to live on land and in water; the combined gill and lung system sees to this. Due to the low temperature of Fufoekkfal (in the far sub zeros), they are unable to stay on land too long or they freeze. They stand about 1.5 meters tall; a bit stocky, but quite agile. On the head and back they are covered with sand-colored fur that is covered with an oily secretion from time to time to prevent it from getting wet. Elsewhere the covering is a black or dark grey leathery skin. Their hands have six digits each and two thumbs on each hand. The five-jointed digits are webbed out to the fourth joint. Their legs are configured as human legs, with three toes which are fairly long; the toes are also webbed.

The flat nose and two eyes are spaced far from each other, giving an effective 210 degree field of vision. Their vision is not as good as a human's. Their hearing is another matter. They are capable of hearing sounds that are in the deep sub-sonic. Underwater, the Katl*'latl navigate by smell and sonar. They emit high frequency pitches that reflect back to them, just like Dolphins. Underwater this may also be used as weapon against small targets such as fish.

Katl*'latl may move around in different environments, but they have some physical limits. Gravities higher than 1.3 may be harmful for them, as are temperatures above 24°C. Water temperatures at this level are avoided at all costs. In air, this is somewhat easier to avoid by donning suits when travelling off-world. If the air temperature is between -1 and -40 degrees Celsius they produce an anti-freeze liquid that is pumped into the bloodstream. They can operate outside in lower temperatures, but only a few minutes. Communication underwater is made by sub-sonic sounds that carry well in water. On the surface, they use the same language, but the pitch is changed so that it is conducted better by the thin air.
