- About 70% of the population is composed of Minlad.
- About 30% of the population is composed of baseline humans and other non-human sophonts.

System Data
Kaiid the mainworld is the third planet of the star Aten.
Mainworld Data
- Diameter: 11,158 kilometres
- Gravity: 0.86 g
The hot equatorial regions of Kaiid are unbearable to most humans; in contrast, the temperate zones are paradisical in climate.
Mainworld Geography & Topography
Eleven major continents and three minor ones with many islands are scattered across the oceans, so no continental area is far from the seas. Almost all land area is covered with forest.
Native Lifeforms
Vertebrate animal life on Kaiid takes a hexapedal form. In some aerial species the middle pair of limbs is adapted to wings; in some small to medium mammal-equivalents, the foremost pair has evolved into crude manipulators.
- Arelli: A flying herbivore, popular as a pet offworld
- Gnulope: As the name suggests, a horned ungulate
- Kuragakaa: An aquatic predator
- Noala: An arboreal animal
- Warra: A burrowing mammal-equivalent valuable for its pelt
Native Sophont: Minlad
These elusive creatures resemble oversized raccoons, but their very thick fur is patterned in more varied and beautiful designs. They were frequently hunted for their fur until the IISS declared them sentient in 1114.

History & Background / Dossier
In -1951, the Tonnes Cluster was approved for colonization. Applications for the colony were processed from the ten nearest Human worlds, and groups of 500 were selected for each planet. While Ixteline and Enmish were outfitted with automated repair stations, Kaiid -- along with Tonnes and Girshi -- received colonists. Each colony was supplied with mining equipment, construction tools, and medical equipment. Native life on Kaiid is edible to Humans, which was a welcome change for Vilani-trained farmers. Unfortunately, Humans are also edible to the native life on Kaiid, including some parasites. A more subtle problem was the deficiency of cobalt in the soil, preventing the formation of vitamin B-12. For a while, the colony solved the problem by importing a trace mineral fertilizer.
During the Long Night, the Tonnes Cluster was cut off. A radio distress signal was sent out from Kaiid, but naturally more than seven years passed before a station on Tonnes picked up the message. Several years later, a rescue expedition brought back the 50 survivors of the thousands who had lived on Kaiid at its height.
Near the beginning of the Third Imperium, Kaiid (still uninhabited after the Long Night) was granted as a fiefdom to Count Lernorc for services to the Emperor. The Count rarely lived there except while vacationing, and his heirs followed his example. About 950, the Lemorc family started to allow colonization of Kaiid.

Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
