Iskender is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.

  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • It is a balmy tropical world, with a climate of high temperatures.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Iskender has a solitary primary star.

  • It is an orange main sequence.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Iskender is a Twilight Zone World.

  • In the narrow region between permanent night and permanent day, the primary star eternally hangs on the horizon.

The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.

  • It lies within the zones prime H+ region.
  • It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Iskender is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Iskender has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Iskender has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

  • Locally, detailed maps may be available.
  • Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
  • Detailed survey data commands premium prices.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Primitive native life occupying a number of ecological niches. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

Large numbers of offworld species, including both flora and fauna, have been transplanted to the world. They thrive in local conditions and provide the foundation of the world's economy.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Iskender is a bucolic backwater with limited development, a stable economy, and acceptable standards of living.

  • Settlement within the system comes from the heavily populated worlds of the Verstand-Jugartha Colonies.
  • It has been settled for centuries.
  • The resources of the system are gradually being exploited.

A few private interests are active within the system.

  • Commercial traffic is sporadic: ships occasionally visit.
  • Commo regularly picks up signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic.
  • A number of commercial navigation beacons will be active.
  • Vessels rarely operate among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.

Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.

  • Verified updated data is constantly sought.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Iskender has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Iskender has a population of 700,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

Urbanization[edit]

A few large urban centers are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.

  • The population are concentrated around the twilight zone.
  • Much of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Iskender possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)[edit]

Iskender is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

World Military[edit]

Approximately 2500 personnel.

World Law (L)[edit]

Iskender has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: -2 (very unimportant)

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: C (very abundant)
  • Labor: 4 (tens of thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 2 (extremely limited)
  • Efficiency: -5 (extremely poor)

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 2 (monolithic)
  • Acceptance: 3 (xenophobic)
  • Strangeness: 2 (typical)
  • Symbols: 5 (concrete)
