Inselm is an icy, nonindustrial vacuum world, warranting hazardous environment precautions.
- Its surface is ice-capped with little or no atmosphere and nearly all of its water frozen.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is a member of the Worlds of The Leader in the Arodir Subsector of Far Home Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.
- This world-system hosts a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces, which may be located on or off-world.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- Inselm is a part of the Krayal Trace.

System Data
Armilam-Inselm System
The primary is Armilam, a dim red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.004 Sols, a mass of 0.273 Sols, and a diameter of 414,000 km. (I) a vacuum iceworld, (II) Inselm, designated the mainworld, (III) a small gas giant: (IV) a ringed large gas giant, (V) a small ice giant, and (VI) a trace atmosphere worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
- The star experiences periodic flare activity.
Obbo Subsystem
The companion is Obbo, a dwarf star that lies approximately 87.8 AU (orbital position (XI), 13.11 billion km). It has a luminosity of 0.00003 Sols, a mass of 1.12 Sols, and a diameter of 8,400 km. (I) a dense icy planetoid belt forms the outer system.
Mainworld Data
(II) Inselm
(II) Inselm is designated the mainworld. It orbits Armilam at a mean distance of 0.45 AU (67.33 million km), within the outer system. It has an orbital period of 211 days 0 hours: it is tidally locked to Armilam. The axial tilt is 3 degrees. Inselm has a diameter of 3,175 km, a density of 6.84 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.31 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Armilam cause occasional geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Vacuum. Approximately 9% of the surface is covered in sheets of crystalline water-ice. Mean surface temperature: -110°C.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 32 million km², Land surface area: 29 million km², Ice surface area: 3 million km².
- Inselm is a Twilight Zone World.
- The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.
Native Lifeforms
Armilam-Inselm System
No world in the system is known to have native life.
Obbo Subsystem
No native life is known to exist within the subsystem.
History & Background (Dossier)

World starport
Inselm has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World technology level
Inselm possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-2.
World government
Inselm is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.
