Indra is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This is a tidally-locked world with one side permanently locked to a gravity source and the other permanently facing away. Most commonly locked worlds are natural satellites of a larger planet or gas giant.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Rigel Subsector of Rigel Sector.
  • This world has an exploration base, which is similar to an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling explorer personnel and exploratory starships.

Mainworld Data

Indra has a Good Starport with shipyards able of handling Spacecraft up to the Overhaul level, and provides Refined fuel. The main world is roughly 14,000 kilometers in diameter, and is a Large terrestrial (e.g. Terra). The atmosphere has a pressure of 0.9 atmospheres, gravity 1.0G. The atmosphere is a standard oxygen/nitrogen mix, which is breathable without assistance. The surface is roughly 94 percent surface water, which qualifies it as a Wet world world. The main world has a general population of 80,000 local residents, which qualifies it as a Moderate population world. The local government is characterized as Representative Democracy, with government by elected representatives. Visitors may find the law moderately restrictive as personal concealable weapons are regulated or restricted by local authorities.

Mainworld Geography & Topography

The surface of Indra is primarily water, and there is only 1 island of any significant size, but many smaller islands. Straddling the day/night area of the world, the western part of the island is in permanent daytime, the eastern part is in permanent night. The central part has various stages of twilight. There are various other islands around the world, but most are either in permanent darkness or permanent midday. None of these other islands are inhabited.

History & Background (Dossier)

What is interesting about a locked planet. is that time becomes fairly much irrelevant. In a normal rotating world, if you stay still, time moves you. Morning becomes midday, midday moves on to afternoon, and then follows night. But a locked planet, the time of day is a function of your location. Whether it is day or night depends on where you are, not what time it is. If you want to sleep when the world is dark, you have to go to the night time zone. As a result, Indra has a very geographically based layout. The down port is at the western edge of the island, and is in perpetual daylight. It is surrounded by the commercial sector with shops and outdoor activities, which never shut down as it never becomes night. As you travel east, the sun slowly sinks behind you, and it becomes twilight. The shops have now disappeared and we have the romantic cafes, parks and boulevards where the low hanging sun gives a gentle light, and makes the couples want to hold hands and talk with the heads close together in hushed tones. Behind the cafes are the restaurants where the sun has now 'gone down', but there is still a dusky light filtering through the air, exciting conversations solving all the universe's problems are happening, and the food is plentiful and delicious. Further east we then come to the all-night nightclubs (which never close as night never ends here), and then at the further eastern edge of the island are the hotels.

630 : Scout ships from Skanor first arrived at Indra to find a uninhabited, very inhabitable world.

World starport

Indra has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
