Inan is a nonindustrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.

  • The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Khulikhu Subsector of Verge Sector in the Domain of Ilelish.
  • This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below technology standards for Charted Space.
  • This a "forbidden" world designated as a Red Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors. Everyone is forbidden to travel here.
  • This world lies on the Great Ilelish Main.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)

Inan is a binary star system.

  • The primary is an orange main sequence.
  • The secondary is a red main sequence.

System Data

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data

Mainworld Size (S)

Inan is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Inan has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Inan has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

History & Background (Dossier)

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Inan is a Forbidden World and is designated as a Red Zone. It presents serious risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors.

  • Travel to this world is prohibited.

Scattered islands hold a modest population of Imperial descendants, but persistent evidence of an as-yet undiscovered native sophont race has led the Scout Service to interdict the world to protect it. The future of the human inhabitants is in some doubt, but as they have already been in residence for a thousand years or more, they do not appear worried.

The interdiction has shut down the port, and outsiders are allowed to land at local communities only under Imperial Permit. So far, the permits are stringent in their limitations but not impossible to get.

Local Scout Service authorities are planning a deep survey of the world in the next year or two to settle the question. The local human population, normally self-sufficient, has barely noticed the difference.[2]

World Starport (St)

Inan does not have a starport. The Class X Starport is an indication that no starport exists in the system. There are no facilities or services available, and no site marked for landing.

World Population (P)

Inan has a population of 2,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Technology Level (T)

Inan possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.

World Government (G)

Inan is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.

World Law (L)

Inan has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

Trade Data

  • Importance: -3 (very unimportant)

World Economy

  • Resources: 8 (moderate)
  • Labor: 5 (hundreds of thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 1 (extremely limited)
  • Efficiency: -5 (extremely poor)
