Igualada is a poor, nonindustrial desert hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • This world has no free-standing water.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Vestus Subsector of Reft Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
  • This world has a nearby Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
  • This world was colonized by and is controlled from Colony Five (world).

Description (Planetology)

Mainworld Geography & Topography

There is very little surface water; less than 2% of the planetary crust (and this includes regions of swampland that dry up every year). The atmospheric taint is harmful to humans; the only native life is fungal and the air is filled with spores that drift on desert winds. These grow rapidly wherever they encounter moisture, normally along the fringes of a swamp or oasis -- or in a human's mucous membranes.

Native Lifeforms

The only native life are various fungal forms.

History & Background / Dossier

There is one known settlement on Igualada, mostly subterranean. Igualada City is tunnelled into rock in an area of high ground which happens to be one of the driest on the planet. It is supplied with water by deep artesian wells, and has excellent recycling facilities. Food is grown in huge garden complexes located on the top levels where they can receive natural light through a glazed ceiling.

Imperial High / Landed Nobility

World Starport

Igualada has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Technology Level

World Government (G)

Igualada has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
