Ice Veil is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and nonindustrial in nature.

  • These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • The worldlets require extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Annistu Subsector of Far Home Sector.

System Data

Gorkus-Ice Veil System

The primary is Gorkus, an orange subgiant star. It has a luminosity of 4.67 Sols, a mass of 2.3 Sols, and a diameter of 4.59 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (II) a trace atmosphere inner world, (III) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (IV) an exotic atmosphere stormworld. (V-I) an exotic atmosphere radworld and (V-II) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (VI) a ringed large gas giant, (VII) the Ice Veil main belt, designated the mainworld, (VIII) a dense icy planetoid belt, and (IX) a small gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Shaden Subsystem

The companion is Shadan, a magenta-coloured L-type brown dwarf lying approximately 940 AU from Gorkus. It is not luminous, it has a mass of 0.064 Sols and a diameter of 60,000 km. It retains no planetary bodies.

Mainworld Data

(VII) Ice Veil Main Belt

(VII) the Ice Veil Main Belt orbits within the outer system and is designated the mainworld. It lies at a mean distance of 4.9 AU from Gorkus and is primarily made up of icy bodies with diameters of less than 50 km. The inner edge of the belt, with a higher concentration of carbonaceous bodies, is considered to lie at around 4.3 AU from the star and the outer edge of the belt, almost entirely consisting of icy bodies, is considered to lie at approximately 5.5 AU. The main inhabited body is named Planck, with a mean orbital distance of 4.4 AU around Gorkus and an orbital period of 5 years 321 days. It has a long axis of 230 km, a density of 4.11 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.009 G. It retains no atmosphere and has no hydrographics. Mean surface temperature: -100°C.

Native Lifeforms

Gorkus-Ice Veil System

No world in the system is known to have native life.

Shaden Subsystem

The subsystem has no planetary bodies and does not have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Ice Veil has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Ice Veil possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World government

Ice Veil is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
