Starships are designed with the Classic Traveller format, using High Guard Shipyard v1.13 written by Andrea Vallance.

The Hu Gi Singh class Battlecruiser is a warship:

Description (Specifications)

The Hu Gi Singh class Battlecruiser is streamlined needle/wedge hulled ship of the line. It is constructed as a long-range design. It is capable of wilderness ocean refueling. The vessel is a TL-13 design. Named for a famous military commander from their history.

Basic Ship Characteristics

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]

Basic Ship Characteristics [2]
No. Category Remarks
1. Tonnage The Hu Gi Singh class Battlecruiser class is constructed using a 90,000 dTon hull built in an streamlined needle/wedge configuration.
  • x10 primary airlocks and x20 secondary service airlocks are located around the vessel. The cargo hold is accessed by several large hatches with loading ramps. It has vacuum cargo transfer locks with grapples.
  • The configuration of the hull typically stays in orbit and relies on service vessels.
2. Crew x1,212 personnel:
  • 45 command, 216 engineering, 245 gunnery, 26 flight, 180 services, and 500 marines.

Accommodations

  • There are 609 staterooms. Double occupancy accommodations are available for all.

Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.

3. Performance The vessel mounts a Cobalt Dynamics Jump 4 drive, four Magnum Flow Reactionless 1G drives, and a Power Plant-4, giving performance of Jump-4 and 4G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 1 and an emergency agility of 4. It is a long-range design: the internal fuel tankage is sufficient for a single jump 4, with drop tanks for an additional jump 4 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.
  • The engineering section has a main control room.
    • Ladders, gantries and platforms give access to the machinery.
  • The jump drive utilizes a hull grid.
  • The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4. Electronics Adjacent to the bridge is an efficient Model/7fib computer: with a full backup computer is installed. There are multiple holo-dynamically reconfigurable Workstations.

Electromagnetic Spectrum Sensors include the following. • Active IR (infrared radiation, thermal imaging) (Active Sensor) • Laser / Light Sensors (Passive Sensor) • LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) – also called LADAR (Laser Detection and Ranging) (Active Sensor) • Prismatic (anti-laser) aerosol (countermeasure) • Magnetic Sensor (Passive Sensor) • Neutrino Sensor (Passive Sensor) • Passive IR (infrared radiation, thermal imaging) (Passive Sensor) • RADAR (Radio Detection and Ranging) (Active Sensor) • All-weather RADAR (improved function in a variety of environmental conditions) (Active Sensor) • RADAR Direction Finder (Passive Sensor) • RADAR Jammer (Active ECM) • Radiation Sensor (Passive Sensor) • Radio Detector (Communications Equipment) (Passive Sensor) • Radio Direction Finder (Passive Sensor) • Radio Jammer (Active ECM) • UV Detector (ultraviolet radiation) (Passive Sensor) Gravitic Equipment • Densitometer (gravitic sensor) (Passive Sensor) Navigational Aids • Inertial Locator (navigational aid, data improvement)

5. Hardpoints x900 hardpoints.
  • The listed battery groupings are standard configurations for the class. Alternative battery groupings may be designated for specific missions.
6. Armament The normal weapons fit-out is:
  • x1 factor P spinal mounted meson gun.
  • x2 100 ton factor 8 particle accelerator bays.
  • x70 100 ton factor 9 missile bays.
  • x30 triple Beam Laser turrets, 3 factor 9 batteries.
  • x20 double fusion gun turrets, 2 factor 8 batteries.
7. Defenses Factor 3 hull armor, 2 x factor 3 Nuclear Dampers, and 2 x factor 3 Meson Screens.
8. Craft Flight Section
  • x4 3 dton Air Rafts

The Hu Gi Singh class Battlecruiser usually carry a platoon of small Grav APCs for the direct action team to deploy and ex-filtrate. The vehicles are housed in a dedicated vehicle bay/hanger.

  • x1 80 dton Cargo Shuttle
  • x10 20 ton Light Fighters organized into a patrol squadron for combat space patrols, defensive missile interdiction, and close air support for marines on the ground.
9. Fuel Treatment The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 39,600 dTons.
  • The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant that can refine all onboard fuel in a few hours: the plant is operated and maintained by the engineering crew.

Droptanks Examples of the class in military service are routinely fitted with Droptanks capable of supporting an additional jump-4 for extended range operations.

10. Cost The basic cost of the vessel, complete without the subcraft, is MCr67,714.626.
  • The vessel and its subcraft are standard designs. Detailed architectural plans are widely available and a MCr 677.146 design fee is chargeable.
  • If multiple examples of the design are ordered all of the ships in the production run qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces the price per unit to MCr54,171.701 (not including subcraft).
11. Construction Time 200 weeks individually, 160 weeks in quantity.
  • Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12. Comments Standard cargo capacity amounts to 58 dTons.

History & Background (Dossier)

Designed and built for Talokan Armed Forces these are streamlined, lightly armored vessels designed to hit hard and fade away. They carry the same ship killing meson spinal weapon as the battleship. They also feature the larger missile bays, but have fewer secondary weapon batteries. They are faster than the battleships but still not very agile. They also carry the same marine compliment as their much bigger brothers, yet lack the vehicle support. They are less capable in marine support and recovery.
