The Hornet class Tracked Missile Tank is a TL-7 Armored Fighting Vehicle.

Description (Specifications)

The Hornet class Tracked Missile Tank: Built on Unofficial (world) at TL–7 from local manufacturers. It has a compact gas turbine engine and is considered underpowered for it mass and armor level. It is too heavy to be an amphibious vehicle. The vehicle's 5cm thick composite laminate armor is not sloped. This design is sealed with overpressure to better cope with proof against CBR/NBC threats. The unstabilized turret has a HMG and eight TAC missiles mounted on the exterior of the vehicle. The is a crew of 3, a driver, gunner and commander. Ground pressure is low and the vehicle will never get stuck in difficult terrain. It has a huge fuel capacity and an excellent endurance as a result.

Vehicle Dimensions:

  • Height: 1m. Width: 3m. Length: 6m.
  • Total usable volume: 22 m3
  • Total mass loaded: 26.3469 metric tons.
  • Production Cost: Cr. 46,812.825
  • Movement: Road Maximum 60kph/50cm; Cross country 30kph/25cm.
Movement effect on fire: move 1/2 or less: -4 FFP, no fire EFP; move 1/2 or move no fire

Armor:

  • Chassis and turret front 26, other turret faces and chassis side 18, chassis rear, belly and deck 10.
  • Target Size DMs: +1 low and +0 high hits.

Equipment:

  • Passive IR rig
  • Active IR scope
  • 200 power radio
  • 8 smoke cannisters
  • Sealed environment with overpressure

Power:

  • 0.4 megawatt gas turbine power plant consumes 200 liters of fuel/hour
  • Fuel capacity 9,177.3 liters, enough for 45.8 hours.
  • Power to weight ratio is 15.18 and the ground pressure is 4.39115 tons/m3.

Weapons:

There is a TL–6 heavy machine gun mounted in a 360 degree rotating turret on the chassis deck. The weapon is belt fed from a 1,600 round ready supply for 40 fire phases. The weapon is NOT stabilized to fire on the move. It can engage 4 targets and has +2 signature. Its direct fire characteristics are as follows:

Direct Fire Characteristics: HMG
Effective Range Long Range Extreme Range
500 m (6)+3 1,000 m (5)+2 1,500 m (3)+1

There are eight 78kg package TAC missiles attached to the sides of the turret, four per side. The 52kg missiles have a 12kg 25cm HE 32/5/5 warhead and it takes two crew members to manually replace these missile packages. The price of the replacement packages includes the Cr260 single shot launcher and the Cr387 missile. The 26kg launch tubes are single use, disposable and can not be re-used. No replacements are typically carried. The homing missiles struggle to achieve intercepts against vehicles protected with advanced ECM abilities. Eaight homing weapon packages are included in the purchase price.

History & Background (Dossier)

This tracked mobile launch vehicle is used to provide unit security to stop close range air and ground threats. The HE warhead works well against aircraft but can not penetrate the frontal armor of all ground vehicles arrayed against it. One oversight was the lack of weapon stabilization gear for the turret mounted HMG and the lack of a visible light searchlight. Less fuel would permit cargo or passengers and has been considered for follow-on designs. The missile package is too heavy for a single person to reload and they lack the sensors to spot enemies at range. They work best in a combined arms approach.
