A Homeworld is a planetological term used by sophontologists to describe the systems or worlds on which Native Intelligent Life (NIL) is thought to have arisen.
- Imperial scientists often use the shorthand abbreviation Hw to indicate this term.
Description / Specifications
While most Homeworlds are located within the Habitable Zones of any particular star system, there are exotic lifeforms known to reside on worlds outside of a conventional Habitability Zones.
- Jovionoids are one such type of exotic life and are known to dwell on Gas Giants, that are typically found well outside of Habitable Zones.

History & Background / Dossier
The usage of the term has been somewhat extended since variant races, chimerae, artificially-created species as a result of Geneering, and other kinds of not-strictly-native lifeforms have their initial place of creation also marked as homeworlds on IISS star charts.
- Please note that a number of species have no known homeworlds. They certainly originated somewhere, though.
Worlds and Sectors
Homeworlds can be found throughout Charted Space and beyond, but for unknown reasons, the greatest known concentrations of sophontic life are located within Charted Space.
World Listing
The following systems and worlds are known homeworlds:
