Hell Worlds
The Hell Worlds is a region of Far Home Sector, within the Distant Fringe, generally considered to include Orret (2230 Far Home), Knyth (2329 Far Home), and Jacent (2331 Far Home): prior to 5596AD the area had no particular given name.
Description / Specifications
These systems, lying directly coreward of the Sath Alliance, represent the only jump-2 link between the Sath homeworlds and the rest of the Distant Fringe. Although they have had significant Sath populations since the Sath Diaspora, they have always been considered human worlds. The Hell Worlds are normally accessed by a star lane called The Descent, although they can also be reached from the Pador-Aredian Cluster, via Alasar or Meleset.
The Sath deeply resent human occupation of the Distant Fringe. To the Sath, effectively trapped within the rimward-trailing quadrant of Far Home Sector, the Hell Worlds represent a human-occupied bottleneck leading to the rich systems at the heart of the sector. Humans, for their part, know that Sath don't share well. A stand has to be made to prevent them taking everything they can get their claws on.
History & Background / Dossier
5596AD–Present. In 5596AD a Sath mercantile Faction called the Ka'sa occupied the Hell Worlds, ostensibly to ensure the safety of its commercial interests. It cited, as justification for its actions, infringements of trade agreements and aggressive encounters between human naval patrols and Ka'sa merchant vessels. Ka'sa actively fostered unrest between minor but allied Sath Factions that had been resident on the worlds since the Sath Diaspora and the local human communities.
The situation has descended into open warfare with distinct territories, front lines, and active combat zones. Mercenary forces form the core of the human resistance, reinforcing and supporting locally raised troops. Human media has made much of the Ka'sa leadership stating that it is “liberating stars that are, by right, those of the Sath”.
