Gishmarkash supports a population of fewer than 10,000 sophonts. This world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions make it dangerous to visitors. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Iiradu Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Gishmarkash, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. During the Long Night this world was named Garkanlu.

History and background[edit]

The Gishmarkash system is owned and run by GISHMARCo Test & Development, a wholly owned subsidiary of GSbAG, specializing in starship systems testing and development.

World Economy[edit]

The abundance of common planetary bodies in the system make for an ideal testing ground for starship systems and complete starships. Two or three projects are generally ongoing at any one time so areas of the system are frequently prohibited from unauthorized vessels, particularly the main world, gas giants, and belts — hence the Amber Zone status.

Gishmarkash is the final testing ground for products. Teams come from other research or manufacturing facilities within the GSbAG group with products ready for testing. There are no research or repair facilities in the system so the teams are required to be self sufficient in terms of specialists, spare parts, and so on. GISHMARCo provides accommodations, in-system transport, co-ordination of the test areas, administration, and basic support services. A large recreation facility on the main world, frequented by the research teams, is also available.

Early project suffered from in-system industrial espionage. In order to counter this, GISHMARCo has two separate defense systems; a standard SBD squadron stationed at the mainworld, and a unit of high speed, high stealth, intercept craft (specially made by Phylum U'Chakzii-Ziask for this purpose). This latter unit patrols the perimeter of the test areas, using high powered passive sensors to monitor for intruding craft or drones. Any suspicious result in a rapid interception and impounding of suspect craft. Ostensibly for research purposes, but also for defense, GSbAG has special authorization from the Imperial Navy to maintain one of the most powerful Deep Site Meson Weapons in Imperial space on the mainworld.
