• This world would like to become a major industrial powerhouse in the subsector, but lacks the population and resources to build an adequate workforce and industrial business sector.
• It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Hedreunides Subsector of Matzen Sector.

Mainworld Data

• Gatune is a "hellworld" located in orbit around the primary star in the binary system.
• The planet of Gatune is tidally locked to its sun and as a result it doesnt rotate around its own axis and has one side permanently facing the gas giant and one facing away. Its habitable zone is located in a small area of the planet.
• The planet orbits the sun every 56.6 standard days.
• Gatune has an axial tilt of 28 degrees
• Despite being in such a close orbit to its sun, Gatune is still a cold planet. Its average surface temperature is -43.8c / -46.8f

Mainworld Size (S)

Gatune is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.

• The planet has a diameter of 6063 miles / 9701 Kilometers
• Gatune has a molten core with a density of 1.08 standard.
• The surface gravity of the planet is 0.81 standard and is therefore classified as a normal gravity world.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Gatune has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

• The atmosphere of Gatune is registered as "Standard Oxygen-Nitrogen with a Gas Mix Taint". This does mean that individuals require breathing gear if operating outside of sealed air tight locations.
• The primary city of Gatune is located at the top of the highest peaks on Gatune. This does mean the air is breathable outside for short periods as the city is located above the most severe gas taint. This short period however is no longer than 30-60 minutes. Buildings have air purifiers located throughout to prevent the tainted atmosphere getting inside.
• The urban areas located away from the primary city are less fortunate and such purifier equipment is not as readily available, as such breathing equipment is usually worn.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Gatune has 05-15% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.

• The surface of the planet has been surveyed and 10% of its surface is covered in what is classified as "Tainted Liquid Water".
• The water is located in the twilight zone and dark side of the planets surface.

Satellites:

• Gatune has no satellites.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

• Gatune was once a volcanic planet, millions of years prior, however a cataclysic event took place and the bulk of the planets tectonic plates fused into a single plate. The world has since never developed further along its ecological journey.
• There is no native flora and fauna on the planet and any life that does exist there has been transplanted or brought with the original settlers.
• Its fair to say the planet is hostile to outsiders with almost no redeeming features.

World Starport (St)

Gatune has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

Facilities

Port facilities within the system include:

• Gatune's starport is only really used for the monthly transport that delivers tools, food and other provisions from the Vilani Protectorate.
• The starport has no refueling or repair facilities and only the most rudimentary buildings and associated port support organisation.
• There are only landing pads for ships of up to 1000d tonnes and even then only 3 pads are operational.

Gatune possesses a Technology Level of TL–3.

• Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Printing press, the mechanical telegraph, and the first audio recordings.

World Government (G)

Gatune is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.

• The leader of Gatune is the Empress Na Gui III. She reigned from the "Crystal Throne" for almost 30 years now and has done so with the support from the various councils that support her position.
• The Royal Family of Gatune have reigned over the planet since the first colony. In fact the the colony was established by dissident nobility from the region that has since become know as the Vilani Protectorate.
• The Vilani Protectorate has, on several occasions, attempted to persuade the Empress and her predecessors to rejoin the fold but this has been met with rejection. Over the years though the relationship has become much more cordial and friendly and its expected that its only a matter of time.

World Military

• Gatune does not possess what most worlds would describe as a military. There is a small standing militia that protect the Royal Family which is about the closest equivalent.
• City districts do maintain a local militia which are akin to police forces who maintain law and order.

World Law (L)

Gatune has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.

• Although there is no codifed laws as such there are rules and regulations in place to help protect individuals, these are linked to Trade, Civil Legislation and Personal Freedom.
• This legislation is upheld by the local militias who, if they find individuals acting against the common good, will arrest the person or persons and bring them in front of the local noble for their judgement to be made. Such judgements are usually fines although occasionally individuals will be sent to prison.
• For the worse crimes eg murder the individuals are usually banished. Effectively this is death sentence as surviving away from the urban areas without food, water and breathing equipment is impossible for members of most races.

• The economy is entirely based upon mining and selling of the local crystals. Its from this one and only export the economy of the planet is sustained.
• The crystals have been found to have various industrial uses for those planets with a higher technology level.
• The Tomon Trade Federation have recently discovered some significant uses for the crystals in their own technological advances. This is something the Vilani Protectorate are very aware of and they in turn are increasing the pressure on the Gatune Royal Family to consider joining the Vilani Protectorate.
