=== Hull ===

The Heavy Pinnace is constructed using a 30-dTon hull built in a generally cone-shaped configuration. The hull is fully streamlined.

* Individual sections of the ship are divided by bulkhead walls.

* The hull includes internal grav plates and inertial compensators.

=== Engineering ===

The vessel mounts a maneuver-4 drive and a power plant 4, giving performance of 4G acceleration. There is fuel tankage of 1 dTon, giving the power plant 4 weeks duration.

The vessel is equipped with a computer model/1 and a pilot’s acceleration couch. There are eight passenger acceleration couches located in the main body of the craft, plus an additional acceleration couch located in the cockpit adjacent to the pilot's position, and three small staterooms. The craft has a cargo capacity of 10 dTons.

A Heavy Pinnace is a type of smallcraft found operating within the Distant Fringe region.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Within the Distant Fringe, a heavy pinnace is usually identified as a general purpose utility smallcraft with a displacement of less than 40 dTons. Frequently they are substantially smaller, averaging around 30 dTons. Heavy pinnaces most commonly serve as subcraft on a larger parent vessel and are typically housed within a specialized hangar.

  • While aboard a parent vessel and not active as flight crew, the heavy pinnace's personnel may be assigned alternate duties such as service crew.

Heavy Pinnaces may also be encountered operating as in-system transports, ferrying personnel, supplies and equipment between outposts and settlements located on different worlds within a system.

Selected Example Ships[edit]

Smallcraft - Pinnace:

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The convention of declaring a smallcraft of a certain displacement tonnage range as a heavy pinnace is a matter of local tradition. In reality there is no discernible difference between a large pinnace, a heavy pinnace, and a small launch.
