Forums: Index > Watercooler > Using https:// for wiki access

Secure Editing (2017)[edit]

With the recent upgrades to the traveller rpg site, the use of the https: (secure sockets version) is now enabled. I'm using this post to verify that all access to the wiki can be done via the secure version of the url.

The plan will probably be leave both the http (original) and https (secure) running for some time, but eventually we'll turn off the http access.

Thank you.

I think you should set a redirect from http to https now. Browsers are starting to complain about the site being insecure.

It's a very good idea.

The wonderful fun challenge here the way to turn the http:// off is to use the Apache ModRewrite rules. But the wiki already uses the ModRewrite rules to make the wiki urls cleaner. See Short URL in the Mediawiki documentation. I need to understand how to combine the two, rather than just cut/paste from whatever the Google Machine shows me.
