Fiyuh
A Gurvin word describing an important Hiver concept, that of the "Yearling". The term is applied to undeveloped societies or primitive civilizations (as judged by Hivers). A literal yearling is a young Hiver newly arrived at a nest after its infant period living wild as a larva (which is indeed about a year). Hivers measure their personhood from this point; larvae are not considered sophonts, merely pests. The Hiver parenting instinct extends to aliens; a Fiyuh race has achieved a basic level of sophont potential (again, as judged by Hivers) and now requires guidance to grow and prosper. The Hivers will provide this.
Essentially, Fiyuh races are candidates for membership in the Hive Federation and through a process of standard diplomacy, cultural aid, technological uplift and Manipulation will be moved in this direction.
