Eslar is a rich, agricultural garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most sophonts.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
- Its economy and population are rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to quickly rise barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Unity of Sed in the Cradle Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- This world lies on the Runners Edge Star Lane.

System Data
Katarin-Eslar Subsystem
The primary is Katarin, an ordinary yellow-white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 4.42 Sols, a mass of 1.38 Sols, and a diameter of 2.031 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a vacuum worldlet, (III) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, and (IV) a thin atmosphere hospitable world. (V) Eslar orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (VI) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (VII) a ringed large gas giant, (VIII) a large gas giant, (IX) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (X-I) a small gas giant, (X-II) a small ice giant, and (XI) a sparse icy planetoid belt form the outer system. Most of the worlds within the system retain satellites.
Mainworld Data
(V) Eslar
(V) Eslar is designated the mainworld. It orbits Katarin at a mean distance of 1.62 AU (242 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 1 year 276 days and a rotation period of 33.5 hours. The axial tilt is 30 degrees. Eslar has a diameter of 13,264 km, a density of 5.53 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.04 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Dense, with a mean surface pressure of 2.1 bar and a composition of 77% nitrogen (N2), 22% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), carbon dioxide (CO2), water vapor (H2O), neon and other trace gases. Approximately 48% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.5m. Mean surface temperature: 22°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems, driven by the star and the seas, sweep across the globe. The climate is seasonal.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 553 million km², Land surface area: 288 million km², Water surface area: 265 million km².
Native Lifeforms
Eslar, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. The local flora has a tendency towards dense tall stems and flat circular leaves: foliage is generally blue-green in colour. The majority of local fauna follows the body pattern Radial HS-TB-AL-LL-N, with exoskeletons and foam fluids: most are relatively small, massing no more than a few tens of kilograms. Most local lifeforms can be digested by humans without problems but taste bitter and have an unpleasant slimy texture.
History & Background (Dossier)
- A former member of the Corolian Jurisdicture.
World starport
Eslar has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Eslar possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion, and the most fundamental atomic energy.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ground cars or automobiles and tracked vehicles.
- Water: Large ships and submersibles with steel hulls.
- Air: Early aircraft including seaplanes and very early unmanned rockets.
World government
Eslar is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.
World Military
Local Defense Forces (approximately 110,000 personnel).
Unity of Sed militia forces (approximately 850,000 personnel).

- Homogeneity: 6 (Harmonious)
- Acceptance: 7 (Aloof)
