An [[Emergency Locker]] is typically a small cabinet holding a [[Vacc Suit]] and emergency supplies.
* A [[Ship's Locker]] is a related ship fitting.
* Its contents are effectively identical to a [[Survival Kit]].
* It is a kind of [[Ship Equipment]]. 

== Description ([[Specifications]]) ==
Imperial safety regulations require that a stocked emergency locker is provided for each crewmember and passenger carried aboard a [[starship]] or [[spacecraft]]. They are designed to give an individual the best chance of survival either in a [[vacuum]] or in a variety of planetary [[environment]]s. Similar emergency equipment is carried by the [[vessel]]s of most other spacefaring [[culture]]s.

Emergency Lockers are sited in locations where they are easy to access, typically close to airlocks, within passageways, and within generally accessible areas such as wardrooms and lounges. They are clearly marked.

Each Regulation Emergency Locker officially contains:
* An emergency (lightweight) [[vacc suit]] with an inflatable bubble helmet.
** The [[vacc suit]] is made from high visibility materials.
* A "grab case" containing a variety of supplies: dimensions of 50 x 40 x 15 cm. 0.1 kg.
** [[Filter Respirator Combination]], including [[goggles]]: one per kit. Negligible weight.
** [[Water]]: eight half-liter cans. 6 kg.
** [[Ration]]s: thirty day supply. 1.5 kg.
** [[Cold-Light Stick]]s: 30 included. 0.3 kg.
** [[Emergency Beacon|Commlink/Beacon]]: one per kit. 1.5 kg.
** [[Flare]]s: four per kit. 1 kg.
** [[Rifle]], Survival: a light-weight rifle which disassembles into three basic components. It has 500 rounds of ammunition. 2.5 kg (including ammo).
** [[Tarpaulin]], made from high visibility materials. 2 kg.
** [[Cord]]: 2mm x 300 m. 0.1 kg.
** [[Rope]]: 1 cm x 50 m. 0.2 kg.
** [[Grapnel|Grappling Hook]]: 0.5 kg.
** [[Mountaineer's Kit|Climbing Spikes & Hammer]]: 1.5 kg.
** [[Medical Kit|First Aid Kit]]: 1 kg.
** [[Machete]]. 0.35 kg.
** [[Binoculars]]. 1 kg.
** [[Sheltersuit]] and [[Heat Pump]]: 2 kg.
** Water Purification Equipment, including [[Water Purification Tablets]]: 1 kg.
** Inflatable Raft: 0.5 kg.
** Miscellaneous: a compass, fishhooks and line, mirror, matches, etc. Negligible weight.
** Survival Manual: varying formats depending on manufacturer. 0.1 kg.

Total kit weight is 23 kilograms.

Most vessels carry a reduced version of the Regulation Emergency Locker: the so-called "Light Locker". Generally it strips out bulkier items (such as climbing equipment) and anything that could be hazardous to the personnel aboard the vessel if it fell into the wrong hands (such as the [[rifle]], the ammunition and the machete).

== History & Background ([[Dossier]]) ==
Emergency lockers were noted as a construction requirement on vessels of the [[Terran Confederation]].

The contents of the modern Regulation Emergency Locker were defined during the expansion of the [[Sylean Federation]], when the crews of ships were far more likely to find themselves stranded in barren, unpopulated wildernesses. Light Lockers, lacking weapons and more specialized equipment, are more common within civilized areas, where the risk of a hijacking is greater than the dangers presented by a forced landing in a remote region.
