Droynia or Eskayloyt as it is known in Oynprith, the language of the Droyne, is the proposed homeworld of the Droyne Major Race species.

  • Its location has never been satisfactorily established, although it is believed that it was somewhere in the Spinward Marches, Deneb, or Trojan Reach sectors.
  • This is based on the distribution of Droyne and other flora and fauna from Droynia's biosphere found on other worlds.
  • These species were believed to have been transplanted by the Ancients, and they are densest in this region.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

The Oynprith name for Droynia, Eskayloyt (Oyn. "Lost Home"), appears independently in myths on three scattered Droyne worlds: Andor (Spinward Marches 0236), Zeen (Deneb 1111) and Auitawry (Trojan Reach 3140). The Oynprith name almost certainly arose after the destruction of the Droyne homeworld; what its original (Proto-)Oynprith name was remains a mystery. The name Eskayloyt is used by the majority of scientists researching Droyne origins.

Characteristics of the homeworld are difficult to determine, but some have been predicted by an analysis of the Droyne themselves. Droynia was a small world with a standard or dense atmosphere, plus a significant hydrosphere. The range of statistics most frequently given are Size 3 to 6, Atmosphere 6 or 8, and Hydrosphere 3+. The flying ability of the Droyne relies on a fairly weak gravity and a reasonably high pressure; a hydrosphere is required for the development of life.

Many worlds terraformed by the Ancients have small size and standard or dense atmospheres. The five worlds in the rosette around Tireen (Knaeleng 2910), all have the physical characteristics 484, for instance. Proponents of the theory that the Ancients were Droyne believe that Droynia had the same characteristics. Others point out that if the Ancients were Droyne, they could not have terraformed their own world before they evolved, and that worlds as small as that as a general rule do not have even standard atmospheres, much less dense ones.

The data and assumptions about Droynia have led to many theories about its location and fate. No known world provides the fossil evidence that it was Droynia; active searches and excavations are underway on several worlds that show promise. Some scholars have proposed that the homeworld was destroyed in the Final War.
