Mainworld Size (S)

This world is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

This world has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

This world has 85-95% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few small continents, and a number of islands and archipelagos. Dry land is limited. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Mainworld Geography & Topography

There are three significant landmasses, all in the tropical zone. Mild temperatures and a great deal of rain and fog characterise these regions.

Native Lifeforms

Drexilthar's native life is primitive and restricted to the sea.

  • Most local lifeforms are imports planted by the Ancients, including many from Terra. Aurochs, Mastodon, and saber-toothed cats are among the dominant land species.

Native Sophont: Iltharans

A long-lived and rank-conscious Human race.

History & Background (Dossier)

The world received star flight from a Reaver warlord, Grand Admiral Izanak, who took refuge on Drexilthar following a defeat which badly damaged several of his ships. The Iltharans were close enough to fusion power and grav technology to provide needed components and repairs under Izanak's guns, but the Grand Admiral failed to realize that they were fully capable of acquiring jump technology in the process. Within 20 years, the Iltharans were in space; within 50, they had an empire.

That empire passed away in time, due to the revolt of Duncinae (Reaver's Deep 1624) in the neighboring Ea subsector and several unfortunate encounters with starships of the resurgent Imperium, the Principality of Caledon (then in its infancy as a power in the Deep), and the Aslan Hierate to spinward. The breakup came quickly, and a sharp decline in technology followed the bombardment of Drexilthar by the Imperial White Fleet in 268. The planet is only now beginning to recover in technological and industrial capabilities, thanks to additional problems in the intervening years which prolonged the collapse.

World Starport (Sp)

This world has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

The Peace of Ftahalr required the Imperium to relinquish claims on all worlds falling within the designated buffer zone, though Imperial oversight of Drexilthar was grandfathered into the agreement, and the Imperium continues to operate the starport here.

World Population (P)

This world has a population of 1,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

Iltharan populations tend to grow slowly even under ideal conditions. Since the devastation at the end of the Iltharan Empire, the planetary population has been nearly static.

World Demographics

Humaniti, population 95%

  • Other, population 5%

Drexilthar is primarily noteworthy as the home of the Iltharan, a human minor race which exploded to carve a petty Reaver empire in the Deep in the waning years of the Long Night. Actually, Ilthara and Drexilthar are names applied by only one of these groups, the nation/race which eventually rose to dominate the other two. The Tring and Akakhad races were absorbed into the Iltharan Empire, but never completely lost their identities.

World Government (G)

This world is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.

A traditional Iltharan series of professional guilds, organised in a semi-gerontocratic rank structure, organises Drexilthar society.

World Law Level (L)

This world has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A world with this law level may be an Amber Zone or a Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. On worlds with this degree of law, it is difficult to distinguish the police from the military. On others, there is no difference.

World Technology Level (TL)

This world possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Military

The Scout Base at Drexilthar is an Imperial station set up in the moon system of the innermost gas giant (planet II). Cultural specialists have been working out of this base for several years investigating the people and society of Drexilthar in depth.

World Culture (Cx)

Drexilthar's inhabitants are militaristic in the extreme, aggressive, obedient to higher authority, and completely without compassion or mercy to the weak. Their dominant culture is Spartan in its subordination of the individual to the state and its rigorous military training. Offworlders are scorned as weaklings, while the people of Drexilthar are held to be the highest of all human forms in the galaxy.

Drexilthar has been classified as an Amber Zone by the Travellers' Aid Society, due to the excessive powers of local paramilitary police and this extreme disdain for offworlders. Still, the planet is not without interest, especially for its historical place in the past of the Deep, and visitors are permitted to move about on the world (under close supervision). Drexilthar is extremely interested in importing higher technology, though an informal agreement between Duncinae, Caledon, the Imperium and the Carrillian Assembly has placed a ban on such technological transfers.
