Demon's Eye is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and barren in nature with no overt population, government, or law level.

System Data

Demon's Eye

The primary is the Demon's Eye, a massive white supergiant star. It has a luminosity of 13,000 Sols, a mass of 14.2 Sols and a diameter of 73.7 million km – the corona extends to 0.49 AU, beyond orbital position (II). It retains no planetary system and is surrounded by the Demon's Eye Nebula, a cloud of luminescent ionised gases and dust.

Demon's Eye Nebula

The ionised gases that form the Demon's Eye Nebula consist of about 90% hydrogen (H2), with the remainder made up of helium (He), nitrogen (N2), ammonia (NH3), oxygen (O2) and other heavier elements. The clouds have a mean density of 103–106 particles/cm³. The Demon's Eye shows a variety of spectroscopic and photometric variation, and in the past has displayed periodic outbursts and occasional much larger eruptions – it is these that created the surrounding nebula.

  • The last major outburst event, which included an anomalous, intensely powerful burst of radio signals, was in 4049AD, at the end of the Dark Age. It was recorded by astronomical observation on survivor worlds across the Distant Fringe and corresponds exactly with the events surrounding the Incursion of 4498. Since then the Demon's Eye has remained remarkably stable.

Lachrymal Subsystem

The companion is Lachrymal, a white giant star lying approximately 2,500 AU from the Demon's Eye. It has a luminosity of 47 Sols, a mass of 6.2 Sols and a diameter of 24 million km – the corona extends to 0.15 AU, within orbital position (I). It retains Meelo, a red main sequence companion which orbits at a mean distance of 0.73 AU (109 million km) with an orbital period of 91 days 12 hours. Meelo has a luminosity of 0.0045 Sols, a mass of 0.273 Sols and a diameter of 389,000 km. Neither star retains a planetary system. They are surrounded by the gas and dust clouds of the Demon's Eye Nebula.

Mainworld Data

Technically, the Demon's Eye system does not have a mainworld. The largest planetary object in the system is Darkhorse, an irregular chunk of dense metallic rock that circles the Lachrymal-Meelo subsystem. It has an extremely eccentric orbit around the two stars: its mean orbital radius is 5.6 AU, but at perihelion it approaches as closely as 1.1 AU and at aphelion it is as far as 10.4 AU. It has an orbital period of 5 years 76 days. Darkhorse has a length of 25km along its long axis, a density of 8.25 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.003 G. It retains no atmosphere and has no hydrosphere. The body is believed to have been an interstellar wanderer that originated outside of the system and was captured by Lachrymal.

Native Lifeforms

No life is known to exist within the Demon's Eye system.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Demon's Eye does not have a starport. The Class X Starport is an indication that no starport exists in the system. There are no facilities or services available, and no site marked for landing.

World technology level

Demon's Eye possesses a Technology Level of TL–0.

  • These worlds often contain a Proto-Sophont species beginning to establish a nascent civilization and society.
  • This world is in its Alpha Period and has not yet been interfered with by a higher technology civilization.
  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Bodily communicative apparati, courier-runners, and smoke signals.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Bodily muscle.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Bodily locomotion, riding beasts, and litters or sedan chairs.
    • Water: Swimming, rafts, and canoes.
    • Air: Typically not available unless a bodily ability.

World government

Demon's Eye has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
