A Day is a unit of time.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

An Imperial day (a "standard day") is a frequently used unit of time. It is used to overcome difficulties caused by having non-uniform local times on each world and system.

  • It is equal to 24 standard hours.
  • The common Imperial usage is simply day: the name is short enough to make an abbreviation unnecessary.

Term Usage Example[edit]

The typical human circadian rhythm displays an endogenous, entrainable oscillation of about a day. This relates closely to the rotation period of Terra, the original human homeworld. The circadian rhythms of humans inhabiting other worlds generally adjust to the local cycles of those planets.

Equivalent Metrics[edit]

Other interstellar cultures have different values for a day, generally based on the rotation period of their homeworld.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The standard day was defined as a unit of time on Terra prior to the foundation of the Terran Confederation. Technologists found the day useful as the concept of the Technology Level and standardized ideas about sophont society development began to take form.[1]
