Cooke is a rich world with a shirt-sleeve atmosphere and a balance of available surface water. The system supports a population in the 100's of millions, which makes it too urbanized to make an agricultural world. This system serves as the capital for the subsector. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Hebrin Subsector of Empty Quarter Sector and in the Domain of Antares. Cooke, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of an Imperial knight and a baronet, and the fiefdoms of a baron and a viscount. All four are members of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. 30% of the world's population is the Major Race Vargr. 30% of the world's population is the Minor Race Bwap.
Description / Astrography & Planetology
It is part of the Imperial Empty Quarter Main.

Mainworld Data
Cooke is a stormy world of high winds and heavy rainfalls, much of the surface of which is blanketed by vast banks of clouds covering the equatorial/tropical zones, where rainfall is at its heaviest.
Mainworld Geography & Topography
Cooke has a base surface temperature of 46' Celsius in the tropics, making the equatorial zones too hot and stuffy (due to the humidity and dangerous levels of heat) for human comfort, hence most settlements exist within the cooler planetary regions such as the northern and southern polar zones, where temperatures drop to around 20' Celsius.

Native Lifeforms
Cooke teems with indigenous life, the most varied of which live in its copious oceans. Some land-based life is considered to be semi-intelligent (...making Cooke popular with hunters) with some borderline examples of emerging sentience (...which are protected species).
History & Background / Dossier
Cooke (EQ 2030) system, originally named Al Kufrah, was purchased from the Duke of Hebrin in 225, and settled in the early 300s, during the dying boom years of the False Dawn and the early years of the Breakdown (a.k.a. ‘the Breakup’, ‘The Bust’). The original settlers included many pro-Imperial soldiers and traders.
Imperial High / Landed Nobility
Cooke (EQ 2030), as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of four members of the Imperial Nobility, who are charged with overseeing the world.
- It holds the estate of an Imperial knight.
- It holds the estate of an Imperial baronet.
- It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial baron.
- It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial viscount.
World Starport
Cooke (EQ 2030) has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- Cooke has two moons, both small rocky bodies namely Splitter's Rock in orbit 11 and Highport Rock in Orbit 29, which as it's names suggest serves as a very busy dropping off point and orbital port for unstreamlined vessels or those ships that do not want to go deep into Cooke's gravity well and dock at Magellan Orbital. Indeed Highport rock has been recognized by TAS as an independent class C port subordinate to Magellan due to the excellence of it's handling facilities and support it receives from Magellan. The Magellan Orbital Yards are known as an excellent source of TL–9 spare parts and services and have a good reputation as shipbuilders capable of manufacturing jump 1 ships using local components.
- This world's primary port is called Magellan Downport/Orbital and exists on an artificial island in the midst of the Northern Ocean connected to the nearby landmass of Geo-Terra by high speed maglev trains.
World Technology Level
Cooke (EQ 2030) possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government
Cooke (EQ 2030) is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.
World Law Level
- Laws are rigidly enforced by the planetary government with all automatic firearms and shotgun's forbidden. Knifes and simple (non automatic) pistols are legal for self defense against the indigenous life, much of which is predatory in nature, examples of which occasionally stray into settled zones or are encountered by farmers and settlers trying to tame the wilderness and set up farms to support the needs of the growing populace.
World Military
No information yet available.
World Economy
The mixed population of 400,000,000 mixed human, Vargr, and Bwaps are generally a progressive and advancing bunch that tend to live in harmony and tolerance of one another, though remain competitive amongst themselves in their business dealings. They tend to be slightly aloof when dealing with off-worlders, a trait inherited from their government, the officials of which are forbidden by law from dealing with off-worlders.

World Demographics
Cooke is something of an anomaly in the Empty Quarter. First, the population is fairly closely divided between Bwap, Vargr, and human populations, but the relationships among them are fairly amicable. Second, the humans are not Muslim Arab or Hindi East Indians, but Atheistic Europeans who can trace their descent from Australia. The unique demographic and cultural makeup is very much off the beaten path for the Empty Quarter, and there is a fairly steady stream of visitors, especially from nearby Hebrin (Empty Quarter 1930). Immigration is tightly controlled though, to preserve the local cultures and demographic balance, so the lineup to relocate to this comfortable and peaceful world is long, and the restrictions difficult to surmount.
World Culture
The main stream population and industry are forbidden from using robots as assistants or as labor, in order to maximize employment opportunities for citizens, although Government Officials and Key workers are permitted the use of robots in their work, frequently using expert systems models imported from higher tech worlds to serve as message carriers and intermediaries when the government needs to deal with off worlders in a more 'personal' capacity.
- The government is extensive having claimed every other body within the system as its territory, where extra – planetary facilities exist, they have exactly the same government structure and law levels and use local tech (TL–9). Convicted criminals are prohibited from the use of otherwise legal recreational drugs such as alcohol and stims though the enforcement of this is proving difficult.
