The rank of Chief Petty Officer (E7) is the third highest non-commissioned officer rank in the Imperial Navy.
Description (Specifications)
Chief Petty Officers are typically the third most senior of the petty officers aboard ship and are rated "Mate". e.g. Machinist's mate. Aboard smaller vessels, they may be the most senior petty officer aboard.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army (Close Orbit and Airspace Control Command) is Senior Flight Sergeant.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army (Ground Force Command) is Leading Sergeant.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Army (Nautical Force Command) is Chief Petty Officer.
- The equivalent rank in the Imperial Marines is also Leading Sergeant.
History & Background (Dossier)
The term petty officer dates back to the Age of Sail. They were a senior sailor, less than the officers but more senior than other ordinary sailors, was known as a petty or lesser officer.
