Starships are designed with the Classic Traveller format, using High Guard Shipyard v1.13 written by Andrea Vallance. |
Carrack class freighters are based upon a design first developed by the Caliphate of Estalia on Whitman (Holowon 0423 A2737D3-A). They are a popular merchant vessel for short-range trade in the Caliphate. These starships have jump 1 range and sufficient cargo capacity for profitable operations among the various worlds of Caliphate. Scorned as unarmed by some safety conscious merchants, they are nonetheless sturdy workhorses of the Caliphate merchant marine. There are currently 49 of these transports in service.
The partially streamlined spherical configuration is lightly armored and is capable of gas giant refueling. The hull is a strange combination of Lead, Iron, and Cobalt and it is fitted with fuel scoops and a purification refinery. They carry a streamlined 20 ton launch. There is a low watch for the crew of six, which include: pilot, navigator, 2 engineers, medic and flight crew. Each has there own stateroom. Passengers are possible if the crew double up. These are normally loaded and unloaded in orbit to space stations who use large cargo barges to get materials to the surface.
