A member of the "Pursers Department" on medium and large vessels

Description (Specifications)

A member of the "Pursers Department" on medium and large vessels, the Cargo Master is responsible for the stowage and maintenance of Freight and Cargo aboard the ship. This will include the maintenance of appropriate environments (especially temperature) for all cargo and both the feeding of, and cleaning up after, livestock cargoes in transit.

History & Background (Dossier)

The role of Cargo Master was first created on Sailing Vessels and then Aircraft - where the correct stowage of cargo was a matter of life or death. Sudden movement of cargo in a hold could cause a ship to founder or an aircraft to crash.

With Gravcraft, the issue became less existential, but not unimportant. Opening a cargo hatch and being buried under loose cargo still happens. Having a 10 dTon container moving in a hull when the ship is manoeuvring under even 1G of acceleration can damage both the cargo and the ship.
