Description
A Degree is awarded to those persons who complete the appropriate course at a recognised University Level institution in the New Earth System.
There are two levels of award:
Persons whose work is recognised by a University Level institution as of national or international importance, and who have not otherwise gained a Degree qualification, may be awarded an Honorary Degree.
The awarding of a Degree or Honours Degree is a privilege restricted by law in all Governments. Falsely claiming such a qualification is a recognised form of fraud.
The awarding of a Degree of any sort is often accompanied by the presentation of a physical certificate that states this fact.
History
The various levels of Academic Award that had been earned from institutions on Earth were seen, by the early settlers, as key markers in the educational attainment of their children. The clarification of what would constitute a Degree was, thus, set very early in the history of New Earth. The first Degrees were awarded in 21.
