Beta Hydrae is a binary star system containing a blue-white α2 Canum Venaticorum variable giant type star of spectral classification B9.

  • It should not be confused with the star Beta Hydri.

Description (Specifications)

Beta Hydrae is a binary star system containing a blue-white giant star of spectral type B9 orbited by a bluish-white main sequence companion star of approximately spectral type A.

The two components of Beta Hydrae orbit one another at a separation of approximately 170AU over a period of about 900 years.

The Beta Hydrae system lies approximately 95.0 pc from Terra, and is located in a Rimward/Trailing direction from Terra at bearing 289.3 o Galactic Longitude and +27.4o North Galactic Latitude.
