Beck's World has a population between 10,000 and 10 million sophonts, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. This world contains an archaeological site with artifacts suspected to be from the now-vanished Ancients. This world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions make it dangerous to visitors. This a low technology world with technology competency below the standard for Charted Space. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Regina Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Beck's World, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world.

Astrography & Planetology[edit]

This is a backwater world near the coreward end of Regina Subsector. It is a member of the Enope Cluster.

Past volcanic activity on Beck's World has covered the surface with huge mountains and vast plains of solid lava. A collapsed labyrinth of interconnected caves, suspected of Ancients origin, has only been partially excavated by scientists of the University of Regina.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The planet's population is concentrated in and around a single settlement, Beck's Town, located on the shore of the world's one small sea.

World Technology Level[edit]

Beck's World possesses a Technology Level of TL–4.

World Government[edit]

Beck's World is governed by a Religious Dictatorship. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy). There is a powerful independent organization, the state religion, which has influence or direct control of the government. Like the bureaucratic governments this may simply be a strong influence with a secular government, have direct influence by controlling who may be in the leadership, or be a direct theocracy where the church leadership and bureaucracy is the government. Beck's world is controlled by a religious dictatorship.

Historical Data[edit]

The Battle of Beck's World occurred here on 122-1109 during the Fifth Frontier War. In that battle, Admiral Elphinstone destroyed the last remnants of the Vargr fleet from Yorbund (Spinward Marches 2303). This major victory was instrumental in breaking the Vargr resolve and eventually winning the war.

What many people do not know is that the Vargr prisoners from that battle were quartered on Beck's World until after the war. Many of the Vargr chose to remain on Beck's World after they were released, and have since become Imperial citizens. About one third of the planet's population now is Vargr. The prison camp where they were held was torn down as a gesture of friendship between the two races.

Cultural Aspects[edit]

Umbrella's are very popular on Beck's World, where it rains "six days out of seven, not counting drizzle". Umbrellas are all manufactured locally and in many colours, there appears to be some form of etiquette about who can carry what colours.

Visitors will often be met by young port staff in uniform who will hold blue umbrellas for them.
