Description (Specifications)
Atlas class Starport Hvy Lift Tug Designed by: Admiral Savage
Description: The Atlas Hvy Lifter is common throughout the Imperium A-Starports, Bases and Depots. It is the heavy tug boat of the Imperium. Crew have couches instead of staterooms, a galley, small medical facility, and engineering capability for on the spot repairs. It is designed for orbit-surface trips. Three Altas lifters can safely lower a Tigress to a planetary surface but often Navy bases would use 4 to provide a saftey factor. The engineering plant is designed for transporting material to a surface. One heavy grav lifter can assist a completely functional capital ship into starport's downport safely with only minor safety concerns. Service to the vessel is completed on the ground by the crew and starport staff. The typical capital ship capable, class A starport with have several Hvy Lifters.
The lifter has a large flat bed and 5 attachment grapples. Hardpoints are used to attach the vessel to the lifter with cables. An 8,000t cargo bay is available for bringing additional craft down internally. The Heavy Lifter subsidized by the govt will have 225cr/ton costs otherwise its usually 450cr/ton. A damaged vessel has little choice if there is no orbital port.
