The Ancient and Preeminent Order of Sylea is an Imperial order of knighthood.

Description (Specifications)

In precedence the Ancient and Preeminent Order of Sylea comes behind three orders controlled by Strephon in his position as Emperor, the Order of the Starship and Crown, the Honorable Order of the Emperor's Guard, and the Order of the Arrow) and before the Ancient Order of Vland.

The modern subdivisions of the Ancient and Preeminent Order of Sylea are:

• Knight/Dame Commander of the Ancient and Preeminent Order of Sylea (K.C.A.S. / D.C.A.S.)
• Knight/Dame of the Ancient and Preeminent Order of Sylea (K.A.S. / D.A.S.)
• Companion of the Ancient and Preeminent Order of Sylea (C.A.S.)

Ordinary members of the order are Companions of the Ancient and Preeminent Order of Sylea (C.A.S.). Above these are the Knights of the Ancient and Preeminent Order of Sylea (K.A.S.). The head of the order is the Knight Commander of the Ancient and Preeminent Order of Sylea (K.C.A.S.).

• As an additional distinction, members of the order are entitled to be addressed as Sieur instead of Sir.
• The badge of the order is 'argent, three quintefoils vert' -- the symbol of the Zhunastu family.

History & Background (Dossier)

The original Ancient and Preeminent Order of Sylea predates the foundation of the Third Imperium, and its members consider it superior to all other orders, but also consider it beneath their dignity to mention the point (aside from an occasional emphasis on the first and third words in the order's name). During the early days of the Imperium, the order was actually lower in precedence than both the Order of Vland and the Order of Terra.

The subdivisions of the order have changed slightly since the early days of the Third Imperium.

• The original subdivisions of the "Order of Sylea" were:

• Knight/Dame Commander of the Order of Sylea (KCS / DCS)
• Knight/Dame of the Order of Sylea (KS / DS)
• Companion of the Order of Sylea (CS)

• The headquarters of the order are located on Capital, in the building formerly occupied the Sylean Grand Senate. It contains the official library of the order, a large meeting hall (the former Grand Senate Chamber), and quarters for visiting members. It also houses the Museum of the Sylean Federation, including the surviving Federation Archives.
