Alpha Subsector is Subsector A of Theta Borealis Sector.

  • It lies within Charted Space.
  • On older surveys it may be referred to as the Alpha Quadrant.

Description (Specifications)

In Alpha Quadrant of Theta Borealis Sector is a small semi-autonomous colony.

World Details: 1105

Detailed UWP data for all the worlds listed within the subsector can be retrieved from Theta Borealis Sector data files.

Astrographic Features & Trade Routes: 1105

The following astrographic and commercial data has been determined:

  • The subsector is a relatively low stellar density region.
  • The Thetan Rift dominates the subsector.
  • The brightest star is the A7 II bright giant primary of the Thrace system.
  • No trade routes are noted as crossing the region.

Borealis Group

The subsector forms part of the Borealis Group, a gigantic, broadly spherical cluster of stars centered on Theta Borealis Sector.

  • It is a distinctive, extremely bright feature that can be easily observed from all across Charted Space.
  • It is more than 40 parsecs in diameter.
  • It contains an unusually high number of giant stars.
  • It is the density of giant stars within the region, rather than their individual brightness, that makes the feature so prominent.

Theta Borealis Bright Stars 2.jpg

The night-time skies of all of the worlds across the region are studded with a panoply of colorful, intensely bright stars.

  • Some are so bright that they can be clearly seen from planetary surfaces during daylight hours.
  • The brightest is Theta Borealis, an unstable, violent, blue-white bright supergiant with a luminosity of around 73,000 sols.
  • Other extremely bright stars within the cluster include Sigma Borealis, Tau Borealis, Epsilon Borealis, Mu Borealis, and Kappa Borealis.
  • While the cluster contains many extremely luminous giant stars, Theta B is exponentially brighter than any of the others.

Chains of giant stars trail out from the cluster into many of the surrounding sectors.

  • Alpha Subsector lies to spinward-coreward of the clusters core, forming part of a long outlying trail of relatively small stars.

Stellar Distribution

A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Alpha Subsector.

  • The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
  • The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.

(Chart sourced from Traveller Map).

Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.

  • Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
  • Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.

Subsector Summary: 1105

Alpha, subsector A of Theta Borealis contains 26 worlds with an estimated population of 193 million, a per capita income of Cr2,787, and a total economy is BCr538. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr17 through 23 starports (3 Class A, 9 Class B, 8 Class C, 3 Class D) employing 1,815 people. Driving this interstellar trade are four Agricultural (Ag) worlds, two Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, three Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, one Pre-Industrial (Pi) world, no Rich (Ri) worlds, and no Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in Alpha maintain two Naval bases, and one Scout base. The average technology level is 8 (with most between 5 and 10). The highest technology level is 13 at Boswool (Theta Borealis 0205).

Alpha, subsector A of Theta Borealis contains 37 stars and 254 identified planets; 17 monostellar systems, seven binary systems, two trinary systems, and no systems with four or more stars. 13 of the 26 systems (50%) have native gas giants. There are two Asteroid (As) belts, no Desert (De) worlds, no Garden (Ga) worlds, one Ice-capped (Ic) world, no Poor (Po) worlds, four Vacuum (Va) worlds, and four Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) worlds.

Alpha has an estimated population of 193 million distributed across no High population (Hi) worlds, no Moderate population (Ph) worlds, 13 Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, nine Low population (Lo) worlds, and one Barren (Ba) world. The highest population worlds are Magpie (Theta Borealis 0806), Creoll (Theta Borealis 0302), and Poltan (Theta Borealis 0303). The population consists of 4 sophont groups including two native sophonts.

4 identified sophont populations in Alpha
  • Humaniti of Terra (Solomani Rim 1827): 185 million on 25 worlds.
  • Osp: 8 million on their homeworld.
  • Byl: less than 1 million on their homeworld.
  • Irf: less than 1 million on their homeworld.

Non-Aligned, Human-dominated

There are 18 Non-Aligned Human-dominated worlds in Alpha with an estimated population of 174 million.

Kingdom of Peladon

The Kingdom of Peladon has jurisdiction over six worlds with an estimated population of 11 million, a per capita income of Cr1,727, and a total economy is BCr19. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr0 through 6 starports (1 Class A, 2 Class B, 2 Class C, 1 Class D) employing 65 people. Driving this interstellar trade are one Agricultural (Ag) world, one Non-Agricultural (Na) world, no Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, no Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, no Rich (Ri) worlds, and no Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in Kingdom of Peladon maintain one Naval base, and one Scout base. The average technology level is 9 (with most between 6 and 11). The highest technology level is 11 at Westmoore (Theta Borealis 0410) and Kapalon (Theta Borealis 0509).

The Kingdom of Peladon has an estimated population of 11 million distributed across no High population (Hi) worlds, no Moderate population (Ph) worlds, three Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, three Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds.
