An Administrator is a kind of bureaucrat, an organizer, and director of projects and office work.

Description (Specifications)

Administrators, also known as "bureaucrats" and sometimes "auditors", deal with paperwork, handling small and petty matters of government interface (arranging for docking space, making sure life support gets recharged, and so on) at every port a ship stops at. Their jobs touch on the cargo master and quartermaster roles, as they are often the ones to keep track of items belonging to the ship as a whole (such as monitoring the levels of various types of spare parts). When present, they are also a ship's paymasters and accountants (any bank balances being run on behalf of the ship counting as part of the inventory they monitor). Often times they also track a crew's mental health, much as medics track physical health, providing counselling to counter space's ravages on a crew's sanity, especially after misjumps and combat.

While small ship crews do not have a dedicated administrator, that is not to say they do not have administrators. Rather, on small ship crews the duties are light enough to be folded into another crew's responsibility, often the captain or one of the officers.

History & Background (Dossier)

Administrators are as old as government. Every sophont race with a historical record has records of some form of administrator dating back to Technology Level-1 (...often around the time writing was invented, as writing frequently arises to assist with administrative duties such as recording taxes).
