History & Background (Dossier)

The earliest colonial efforts here took place in ancient times. That ebbs and flows of interstellar civilization and empires have left the culture here very tribal. The central bureaucracy runs everything, but underneath there are firm tribal alliances and rivals. The imposed governmental structure is tolerated. The Dolphins for example largely ignore it; the genetically engineered amphibious Luriani humans as well. The abundant marine resources and ample food supplies have led to the huge population.

Military

The military is a mixture of draftees and more determined, professional volunteers who usually come from military families. The military leads exploration operations in the depths searching for resources amid the dangerous native megafauna. Ranks are usually influenced by noble family connections.

World Culture

A large number of the population sub-categories are "rural" and avoid the more civilized and technologically sophisticated hubs. Being well adapted and able to live off the bounty of the world ocean is greatly admired. The gender ratio is 1.43 males:females, and warrior castes persist. The fertility rate is 4.3 children per family unit, but the life span among the modified and the individuals who live at large brings the planetary average to 36.7 years, because there are many things out there that can kill you.

Deep subsonic "songs" are a popular art form, akin to whale song, they can travel great distances underwater. For the free roaming marine people, personal contact without consent is a major taboo and offense. City dwellers are accustomed to cramped social spaces, but 'free people' despise being "bumped" into. Long range communication technology is a popular field here.

Imperial High (Landed) Nobility

Aanshi, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of two members of the Imperial Nobility, who are charged with overseeing the world.

Languages

  • Anglic
  • Delphinic Trinary
    • This language, also known as Delphinese, involves various clicks, rasps, chirps, creaks, hoots and whistles. Due to the spread of Dolphins across Charted Space, it has evolved into a multitude of dialects. It can take a Dolphin some time to learn a new dialect; errors are often seen by both parties as humorous.
    • For communication with humans and other races, most Dolphins speak ordinary, if flowery, Anglic.
  • Vilani (language)
